Hair fall. It’s very probable that you or someone that you know is suffering from it. Unfortunately, as we age our hair falls out. It’s sad, I know. But hair fall doesn't affect just middle aged people or older people. Even teenagers and those in their early twenties can be affected by it.The reasons may vary, but generally hair fall is the result of a poor diet and lifestyle. Below, I'll be listing a few of the food items that affect our hair growth. A few to avoid, a few to welcome with open hands, or should I say open mouths?
1-Salmon
You may be surprised, but Salmon is a serious boost for your hair. The Omega-3 acids can work wonders for your hair. It also has Proteins and other Vitamins essential for proper hair growth. Asides from all that Salmon is very good for your heart, skin and brain. Did I also mention that it tastes amazing?
2- Eggs
Again surprised? Well, let me tell you eggs are a huge source of protein, which is mainly found in the white of the egg. Eggs also contain Vitamin B, which is good for hair growth.
3- Green Tea
I keep surprising you, don't I? Epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG is a polyphenols compound found in Green Tea. EGCG inhibits Tumor Necrosis Factors (TNF) a molecule that leads to hair loss. It can also affects your dihydrotestosterone or DHT activity (a hormone) which has been associated with balding.
4-Nuts
Almost all the nuts out there have some or the other beneficial properties that increase hair growth. Unfortunately discussing all of them isn't really possible. So, in short nuts generally contain L-arginine (an amino acid), Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Vitamin E etc. All of which are good for hair growth. Few of the nuts that I personally recommend are Walnuts, Almonds Macadamia nuts and Hazelnuts.
5-Pumpkins Seeds
I bet most of you never even thought of it, or even knew they were edible. At least I didn't. But moving on, these seeds can lower your DHT, just like Green Tea. They are also packed with Vitamin A, K, B (biotin), sulfur, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids, essential nutrients for your hair.
6-Soybeans
I don't know whether you knew this or not, however soybeans blocks the action of DHT, which by the way also happens to be a cause of Prostate Cancer. They are also high in protein, calcium, fiber, folic acid, B vitamins, potassium and iron – all essential vitamins and minerals for healthy hair.
Now before we move on I just want to talk about one thing. IRON. Iron is very important for our body to function smoothly and as you probably guessed it’s good for hair growth too. However, women possess a unique challenge when it comes to getting enough iron for their body. The MENSTRUAL CYCLE. Since women lose a lot of iron during their monthly flows, they need to take in even more Iron than men. A quick blood test can reveal how you're Iron levels stand. According to that you can increase you're Iron intake by having food items such as:-
-Liver
-Oyster
-Chickpeas
-Dates
-Lentils etc..
Your doctor may also most likely prescribe Supplements such as Feroglobin etc.

Now I mentioned earlier that a few food items need to be avoided in order to promote more hair growth, in my next post I'll be discussing a few of them.
